Materials Science

Besides the overlap with surface science in the areas of catalytic materials and with biological science in the area of biomaterials, materials science will be important in energy conversion devices as well. Electrochemical materials for batteries and fuel cells and thermoelectric materials for direct conversion of heat to electricity and biocompatible implant coatings are all examples.
